Hello,
Maybe someone here can help us. i am the head of the tech. crew and concord high school in Australia. and we have a precept 12 lighting board with a jands road pack dimmer box. Old hey? yeah well thats what were working with, the real prob is we can't figure out how to get the chaser working, and we have the feeling that the whole memory is full of presets. My questions (ill simplfy it) 1) How do we erase all stored scenes 2) how do we get chaser working again 3) is there still a manual in the archives anywhere? Thanks a lot, Concord High School |

Hi,
All your answers can be answered by getting a manual. LSC don't have these in electronic format due to the product's age but we still do have printed copies. Unfortunately we have to charge for them. Send an email to sales@lsclighting.com.au requesting a Precept 12 manual and they will give you details of cost. A piece of history The old PRECEPT is a good work horse and there are literally hundreds if not thousands of them still working around the world. The Precept 12 is also a famous desk as it was the FIRST small microprocessor based lighting control desk in the world. For a number of years it was also sold in the US and Europe under the Avolites brand name. It was designed and developed by LSC in Australia and released in 1984. Its bigger cousin the Precept 24 was released a year later. The last Precept 12 and 24 was manufactured by LSC in about 1994 (no one can remember exactly). |

QUOTE (concordhs @ Dec 6 2005, 09:22 PM) Hi Concord HS, The Precept can still be repaired but it is difficult to get some of the parts these days. In particular the faders are not available anymore. Depending on where you are there may a sevice agent in your state that can repair Precepts. Alternatively you can always send it back to us and we can repair it for you. Contact the factory on (03) 9561 5255. Make sure you send a detailed note with the unit telling us exactly what is wrong with it. |

Hi concordhs, and Welcome here!
Enjoy your stay. Man, it's all about the Precept 24 baby! *sniffles* This was the first lighting desk that I ever touched, and learnt to program in parallel with the Strand GSX+ (or the Golf ball/24 Submaster Model) We still have our's at school and use it sometimes, mainly as a desk to use while rigging through an LSC A/D Mux, of about the same age! I know of 2 amateur theatre's and another Secondary Colledge that still use the Precept (I though the head tech guy there how to program the desk too). Good times. Anyway, good old R&D didn't answer your questions :P A1) Not sure if you can with that one, but really there is no need to. It is possible however to record over the top of a preset with a scene while all faders are at zero. It does not take that long to record 12 blank scenes if you wish. I take it that you know how to record a scene, if not, just reply. A2) "Chaser working again". I am not quite certain what you mean. If you allready have a chase programmed you need to select the right chase page with one of the two page selection keyswitches, set the Chase Master up to full (the green one on the right) and push the chase speed faser up as requied. The chase will not show "through" if you have all the other channels up. The manual discribes how to program a chase. A3)If you still require the manual I can scan one in and pass it onto you. Unfortunately I don't think I have one at my home at the moment, I will have a look around in a few other places otherwise I can get it done the week before school goes back (about the 23rd of January). Or if I catch up with LSC before than I could do it as well. The best of luck. |

QUOTE (Ryan Beeby @ Jan 7 2006, 07:27 PM) Yep Ryan is right - I didn't answer your questions. In looking for a manual - hey even I forget how to run a Precept now It doesn't have any of the pretty pictures in it but I think the words are all mostly there. I have attached it to this post. It's only for a Precept 12 but the Precept 24 isn't that different. We can't guarantee the accuracy of this document as it has not been proof read by anyone here that I am aware of but I offer it up to you for what it's worth.

Fine i'll make the cake and you can eat it.
I'll still grab the book in a few weeks and scan in the pics. Might as well make it complete. You can't forget how to program the Precept, you should be sacked and myself hired instead. Good find, I wonder what other dark and gloomy archive stuff lurks around LSC network shares? |

Did anything eventuate of that scanning of the Precept manual? It's just we have a Precept 24 at school, and I've forgotten how to use it to its full extent. Shameful isn't it
We're the real LSC people - we have a Focal 36 with Master Wing, a Precept 24, and WallPak dimmers, and we are soon to get a maXim/LP with iPros. -------------------- Tell me and I will forget

Thanks again guys (and girls) In order to "erase" the chase seen all you need to do is program another one, it doesn't actually do anything unless the chaser master is up, so if you are not using chaser then you do not have to worry about erasing the chase scenes. As for the board layout I cannot really help you as I am after a manual myself. I can tell you anything red is a scene everything yellow is an individual channel, and the grey buttons down the bottom can be either add preview or kill buttons, which is selected by the second (bottom) three way switch. The grey buttons down the bottom of the masters enable for functions such as chaser programming and blind programming, another point is the grey buttons need to solo master up to work properly. Hope this helps and if anyone has a PDF of the manual with images could they please shoot it in my direction. Thanks mrtechguy |
